For week 2, we were tasked with creating a storyboard for a 1-3 minute animation. Because I already have experience animating with After Effects, I wanted to push myself by creating a more complex animation with a fleshed out story.
Drawing from my own experiences with roommates, I decided to create a short piece titled "Neighbors", which centers around a man living in an apartment with noisy tenants as he attempts to study for his GRE exam. In my mind, I knew that I was going to go for a minimalist, simple art style, since I didn't want to burden myself with the design, but rather, focus more on the motion.
I drew a rough storyboard in Photoshop, read from left to right, top to bottom (art style in storyboard NOT representative of final art style)
At first glance, these look like a lot of frames. However, considering that most of the story happens in the same apartment space, I would only have to worry about animating the character motion, while the background can simply be static. Depending on time and resources, I may choose to cut out a good chunk of my storyboard as well.
Using Illustrator, I created some simple assets to use. However, I am hesitant on using these files after looking at them for a while, and may re-create the characters again. Nevertheless, here are some screenshots:
